~ Dan McCranie, Airport Town Hall Meeting, Dodge County Courthouse upstairs courtroom, 2013
Representatives from The Eastman Examiner and The Dodge County News questioned the action taken as being inappropriate since the action appears to go against the State of Georgia’s open meeting laws. The open meeting law allows that elected officials go into executive session to discuss potential litigation, but in the interest of an open meeting, the action being taken and voted on must be announced.
City Attorney Rita Llop said the action was protected by client/attorney confidentiality. How can this possibly be? Rita Llop is the City of Eastman’s attorney, and cannot represent whoever she says her client is and the city at the same time because this creates a conflict of interest which also violates the Georgia Sunshine Law and the Georgia Constitution.
Who are they all trying to protect? I believe that the Georgia Secretary of State needs to be informed about this, and also if this is conspiracy to protect an elected official the Georgia Attorney General as well as the Georgia State Bar needs to be made aware.
There are fines connected with violating the Georgia Sunshine Law, and it seems quite obvious that this has taken place. This type behavior in a public meeting held by public officials and their attorney should not be tolerated by the citizens of Eastman!
