The Dodge County High School (DCHS) Indians hosted the Running on the Reservation for the Cross Country races last Tuesday, September 22, 2013.
The Indians are improving both as individuals and as teams placing higher each week in the standings.
The Dodge County Middle School (DCMS) Lady Warriors are pushing each other each week to perform on a higher level.
This week at home, they placed sixth as a team in the meet. Individually, they are improving also. Abby Greer took a seventh place overall finish for the Warriors. She was the first Lady Warrior to cross the finish line.
Following in her path was Michelle Zhang, 16th place; Marissa Hall, 18th place; Collette Sheldon, 23rd place; Kaitlyn Spires, 25th place and Millie Yeomans, 30th place. Each girl strives to improve her individual time each week.
We have several sixth graders on the team that are preparing to become leaders in the next year for the DCMS Lady Warriors.
The Warriors are having a phenomenal year placing high in the ranks each week.
This week, the Dodge Warriors took first place in the event with an overwhelming lead against the other teams. We had five guys who placed in the top 13 runners.
Dakota Rowland placed second this week out of the entire group of runners. Rowland is an eighth grader at DCMS and is looking to become a major player in the high school ranks next year. He has been running with the team for three years and pushes himself against Hunter Augins and Jacob Danforth (high school participants) each week at practice.
Following Rowland is Jeremy Mullis who took sixth place, CJ Rich seventh place, Brodie Woodard 11th place and Christian Grauberger 13th place.
The DCHS Lady Indians secured a second place victory. Brooke Woodard and Cierra Long each pushed each other and had respective finishes of fourth and seventh place overall.
Woodard has battled knee injuries the last few years, but is constantly a front-runner in Dodge County Cross Country events. She is a ninth grader and a leader on the trails and also in the classroom.
Following the footsteps of Woodard and Long, was Jamaica Mitchell ninth place, Lexis Burch 10th place and Mercedes Brown 16th place. These were our top five finishers for the Lady Indians.
As a team, they scored very high against the other teams.
The DCHS Indians did a great job of finishing up the day.
Danforth, Augins, Jacob Holloway and Clayton Scarborough were the front-runners for the Dodge County Indians. They placed in the top 25 runners. This team has a load of building potential.
Augins and Brandon Roland are the only seniors on the team this year.
Danforth is a junior with Holloway being a sophomore and Scarborough being a freshman. Tailor Tripp is also doing a fantastic job this year. He rounded out the top five for the Indians, but each week it is a toss up who will be in the top five depending on the course.
John Burrows and Sham Patel also have the potential to be major players in the cross-country arena. They are improving along with the rest of the team each week.
