The Dodge County Indians traveled to Leesburg this past Friday night to play the undefeated 1-AAAAA Lee County High School Trojans. The Indians (2-2) looked to bring home a win after two consecutive losses. This was a non-region game.
The Indians began the first quarter of play with a powerful running game and dominated the majority of the first quarter. A 46-yard screen pass from quarterback Landon Martin to Marlek Lamb put the first points of the game on the board for Dodge County. The extra point attempt by punter Mitch Tanner was good and Dodge County lead the first quarter of play with a score of 7 to 0.
The Indian defense kept the Trojans from moving the ball down field. But on the Indians’ third offensive possession of the game, a forced fumble gave the ball back to the Trojans.
On the very next play, Lamb recovered a fumble for a 35-yard touchdown run, but the play was called back because of a penalty. The Indians retained possession of the football but on the very next play a Trojan player stripped the ball from quarterback Martin and ran the ball 73-yards for a score. The Trojans’ extra point attempt was good and the ballgame was tied 7 to 7 in the second quarter.
The Trojans managed to put additional points on the scoreboard with a goal-line touchdown with a little over four minutes left in the half. The Trojans would go into halftime with a seven point lead. Halftime score was Lee County 14 and Dodge County 7.
The Indians held the Trojans to 77 offensive yards in the first two quarters.
Third quarter of play found the Indians and the Trojans struggling offensively. But both teams managed to put seven points on the scoreboard during the third quarter. Dodge County had a 40-yard touchdown run by Roscoe Wilcox and Lee County had a 1-yard touchdown run. Score at the end of the third quarter was Lee County 21 and Dodge County 14.
The Indians defense kept Lee County from the goal line most of the fourth quarter but the Trojans managed to push the ball down field for a one-yard touchdown run to give them a 28 to 14 lead.
Dodge County did not score in the fourth quarter of play.
Final score of the game was Lee County 28 and Dodge County 14.
The Indians out rushed the Trojans 155 yards to 101 yards in the game.
The Indians (2-3) will travel to Louisville to play the Jefferson County High School Warriors on Friday. The Warriors (5-0) are undefeated on the season and this game will be the first region game for the Indians. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
