Dodge County Sheriff Lynn Sheffield would like to make the citizens of Eastman and Dodge County aware of a telephone scam that has occurred over the past several days.
An Eastman resident received a phone call from an individual stating their affiliation with Publishers Clearing House, a national sweepstakes company. The individual informed the Eastman resident of their sweepstakes win and in order to claim the prize, said individual had to leave their home and travel to a location specified by the caller. The Eastman resident notified the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department and requested a deputy escort to the specified location. Upon arrival to said location there was no presence of anyone.
A few days later, a Dodge County resident received a phone call at his place of employment from an individual again stating their affiliation with Publishers Clearing House. The said individual asked the Dodge County resident to go to a specified store and make a purchase and then bring the purchase receipt to a specified location.
According to Sheffield, both of these incidents were scams.
Sheriff Sheffield advises all residents of the community be aware of this scam that has been ongoing these past few days and to notify the sheriff’s department of any similar phone calls or incidents.
