A Rhine man had to be flown to a Macon hospital after he was involved in a vehicle accident at approximately 6:57 p.m. on Saturday, June 1.
According to the Georgia State Patrol report, William Jenkins (age 59), of Rhine, was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma south on Georgia 165 at an excessive speed. Jenkins ran across the right fog line, steered left and traveled toward the centerline. He then overcorrected right, ran onto the west shoulder of the roadway, down an embankment, oversteered left and lost control of the truck. The truck then began overturning. During the second overturn, the truck struck a tree with the truck bed area, went past the tree and came to rest on the roof.
Jenkins was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by first responders using the Jaws of Life. Jenkins was transported from the scene by helicopter to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
