The Dodge County Indians have five losses on the season. Four of those five losses were on days where the recorded high was 58 degrees or below and the low that night in the 30’s.
In those four “cold weather” games the Indians were outscored 35 to six. As you can imagine, we are all hoping the cold weather is gone for a while.
The latest cold weather game came against the Dublin Irish on March 25, 2013. Slade Yawn got the start for the Indians on the mound. Yawn pitched six innings striking out nine, allowing four hits and three earned runs.
Jonathon Perdue had one inning of relief striking out one, giving up two hits and one earned run.
The cold temperatures took its toll on the Indians bats as Austin Clements, Aron Chick, Slade Yawn and Josh Perdue had the only four hits for the Indians. The Irish shut out the Indians seven to zero.
March 26, 2013 the Indians traveled to Swainsboro for a region game. Dodge County was able to overcome the cold weather and get a region win.
Jordan Smith was the starting pitcher and made quick work of the Tigers. In the shortened three-inning game Smith had four strikeouts and allowed only three hits.
The Indians had a good offensive night with Jonathon Perdue going two for two, Cain Peterson two for three, Chick two for three, Josh Perdue two for three, Smith two for four with a homerun, Lane Crummey and Lance Pruett also added hits.
It was all Indians 16 to zero in three innings.
On March 29, 2013 the Indians got their first look at region opponents the Washington County Golden Hawks. Washington made the long drive to the reservation and had an even longer ride back.
The Indians were a little slow out of the gate but Chick was able to shut down Washington’s offense. He pitched the entire five-inning game, striking out 12 and allowing just three hits.
Leading the charge for the Indians were Andrew Hardy two for three, Clements one for one with a double, Jonathon Perdue one for two with a triple, Josh Perdue one for two, Smith one for two, Crummey one for three and Chick one for four.
The Indians move to five and zero in the region with a 13 to one victory.
