Knight signs scholarship

Thomas Knight, a senior at Dodge County High School (DCHS), recently signed a golf scholarship to attend Brewton Parker College. Knight has had an outstanding high school golf career. He received the golf team’s low medalist award all four years of high school. He was a 2012 all-state golfer and placed third in the 2012 AA state championship tournament. Knight has also been selected to compete in the sixth annual Georgia High School Golf Coaches Association (GHSGCA) Senior All-Star Golf Tournament from June 4 through June 6, 2013 at Sunset Country Club in Moultrie. Knight is the son of Dr. Mike and Dawn Knight and has a brother, Michael and a sister, Annie. ‘Patriot’ games at the IRS

It sounds like the plot from a dystopian libertarian novel. The word “patriot” and the phrase “educating on the Constitution and Bill of Rights” triggered heightened scrutiny from the most intrusive agency in the federal government.

We now know that the Internal Revenue Service did indeed target conservative groups, as had long been rumored and oft-denied. The news is a perverse confirmation of the groups’ worldview, and a challenge to President Barack Obama’s. He always harangues us about putting more trust in government, and then you find out that the IRS has been singling out his political enemies.

R.I.P. old-time pro football players Tony Linhart, 70, Jack Butler 85, George Sauer, Jr. 69.

Helping Mark Sanford return to Congress in South Carolina’s special election could have been Democrats voting for him in the open primary, just as Democrats voted for John McPain in 2008. Of course Mark Sanford was a strong campaigner who had never lost an election and McPain was probably the weakest Republican in the 2008 field. I was hoping Teddy Turner would win the primary but given the two person choice, Mark Sanford was a lot better than ultraliberal Colbert Busch, a complete loser. We could say: blame it on Busch. Bill Clinton was far sleazier than Mark Sanford, yet he is a Democrat hero today.

Wreck ends Amber Alert for four year old

A three vehicle accident quickly cancelled an Amber Alert that had just been released for a four year old child that had been allegedly abducted from her grandmother’s home in Americus by her mother.

Business is burglarized, set on fire

On Saturday, May 11, 2013 The Thomas Realty Company located at 220 Griffin Street received damage to the building when a fire was set and the building was burglarized. All the computers were reported stolen. The fire was extinguished before extensive damage occurred. This is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office, the Eastman Fire Department and the Eastman Police Department.

Hargrove signs tennis scholarship with MGSC

Dodge County High School (DCHS) senior tennis player Virginia Hargrove signed a tennis scholarship with Middle Georgia State College on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Hargrove’s tennis career started when she was eight years old with lessons from her long time United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) certified instructor, Barry Boone. Her first tournament was the Gainesville Parks and Recreation Department state tennis tournament where she won the state championship in the 10 and under in doubles.

Authority appoints officers, tempers flare

Tempers flared at the Monday, May 13, 2013 meeting of the Dodge County/Eastman Development Authority after chairman Jack Burnham called the meeting to order. After the invocation, board member John Jessup made a motion that the meeting agenda be changed to include election of officers for 2013.
