Hunter Rahn, son of Jim and Tammy Rahn, killed his first turkey on Saturday, May 4, 2013. The gobbler had a 10 ¼ inch beard and 3/4 spurs.

The eight year old and under (8U) Lil Canes finished second place in the fourth annual “Mother’s Day Classic” in Douglas on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Knight signs scholarship

Thomas Knight, a senior at Dodge County High School (DCHS), recently signed a golf scholarship to attend Brewton Parker College. Knight has had an outstanding high school golf career. He received the golf team’s low medalist award all four years of high school. He was a 2012 all-state golfer and placed third in the 2012 AA state championship tournament. Knight has also been selected to compete in the sixth annual Georgia High School Golf Coaches Association (GHSGCA) Senior All-Star Golf Tournament from June 4 through June 6, 2013 at Sunset Country Club in Moultrie. Knight is the son of Dr. Mike and Dawn Knight and has a brother, Michael and a sister, Annie. Hargrove signs tennis scholarship with MGSC

Dodge County High School (DCHS) senior tennis player Virginia Hargrove signed a tennis scholarship with Middle Georgia State College on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. Hargrove’s tennis career started when she was eight years old with lessons from her long time United States Professional Tennis Registry (USPTR) certified instructor, Barry Boone. Her first tournament was the Gainesville Parks and Recreation Department state tennis tournament where she won the state championship in the 10 and under in doubles.

Indians earn spot in the “Elite 8” in state baseball tournament play

On Wednesday, May 8, 2013, the Dodge County High School (DCHS) Indians hosted the Callaway Cavaliers in the “Sweet 16” round of the state play-offs.

The first game of the double header had Jordan Smith on the mound for the Indians. Smith pitched well going the full seven innings allowing four runs, three earned on eight hits while striking out nine.

The Indians would put together 10 hits but couldn’t get the big hit when they needed it.

Indians advance to “Sweet 16” in state tournament play

On April 26, 2013 the Dodge County High School (DCHS) Indians traveled to Sandersville to make up a rain out game from earlier in the season.

Lance Pruett was the starting pitcher for the Indians. Pruett went five innings striking out seven. He allowed one earned run on five hits.

Aron Chick came on to finish the game with a two inning save giving up one hit and striking out four.

Indians defeat Central Macon to earn spot in state soccer tournament’s “Sweet 16”

Friday night finally arrived and Central Macon made their way to Dodge County High School’s (DCHS) stadium to compete in the first round of the region AAA state soccer tournament.

Soccer Coach Shelia Honeycutt kept telling our boys to “defend the teepee.” The boys kept saying “look up, get up and never give up.” These sayings couldn’t have been more appropriate for our all-out war against Central Macon. They were a team to be reckoned with. They were tough and wanted victory as much as our Indians did.

High school boys soccer team wins region championship

Wow! What an overwhelming night! First, I have to honor our Seniors. They have been dedicated and proven to be leaders on and off of the field this year. Sierra Brookes, Summer Dix, Shea Fordham, Breezy Strohmetz, Maurice Clark, Jordan Cook, Jaye Moye, Seth Palmer and Jake Ruffin all represented the 2013 Dodge County High School (DCHS) soccer teams with unparalleled style this year. They were honored by their teammates and parents at “Senior Night” on Tuesday, April 23, 2013.

Indians win region championship, advance to state baseball tournament

On April 22, 2013 the Dodge County Indians traveled to Dublin to take on the Fighting Irish.

Lance Pruett was the starting pitcher for the Indians. Pruett pitched the complete game going seven innings, striking out two, walking three, and giving up seven hits and two runs.

Lady Indians tennis team earn spot in “Elite 8” at state tournament; boys lose to Rockmart

On April 29, 2013, the Dodge County High School (DCHS) Lady Indians hosted Callaway High School in the second round of the AAA state playoffs.

The Lady Indians were ready with quick wins by number one singles, Hargrove and number three singles, Thomas. Callaway got the next win defeating Dodge’s number two singles, Erwin in two straight sets.

Archery team honored

The Dodge County Middle School archery team was recognized at the April 11 meeting of the Dodge County Board of Education. The students were presented “Examples of Excellence” certificates by superintendent Dr. Melinda Dennis. The archery team recently placed fourth in the state competition and earned a team score of 3005, which earned them a spot in the national archery competition in Louisville, Kentucky in May. Indians defeat Thomson, Jefferson County; lose to Truetlen County and Swainsboro

April 2, 2013 the Dodge County High School (DCHS) Indians took the long ride to Thomson to take on the Bulldogs.
I don’t usually go into a lot of detail of the Indians games but this game had an ending that can’t go un-talked about.

The Indians had trailed the entire game. The score was four to zero going into the top of the sixth inning. The Indians managed to load the bases but had two outs.
