Many cases were heard in Dodge Superior Court recently. The following are the results of those cases.
Felony Trial Calendar
Paul T. Peterson was charged with one count felony criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, which was reduced to felony theft by taking. He received five years to serve in prison.
John Tuff was charged with one count felony sale of cocaine for which he received 10 years to serve in prison concurrent with prior sentence.
Carlton Deshawn Keaton was charged with three counts felony burglary, which were reduced to three counts theft by taking. He received five years to serve in prison concurrent with prior sentence. [Full Story »]

Dodge County sheriff’s investigators have made several felony theft arrests and recovered stolen property over the last couple of weeks.
Deputies were called to a residence on El Bethel Church Road last Thursday to theft of tools and equipment from that location. Investigators were able to recover the property in Wheeler County. Investigators have arrested and charged James Ralph Cannon (age 40), of a Helena address in Dodge County, with felony theft by taking in connection with the case. [Full Story »]

Deputies seize marijuana crop

Dodge County sheriff’s deputies searched a residence on Airport Road back in May. Deputies and sheriff’s investigators seized a crop of approximately twenty five (25) marijuana plants and a firearm from the residence. Sheriff’s narcotic investigators obtained arrest warrants on the occupant of the residence who was not home at the time the search was conducted. On Thursday June 2, law enforcement officials served the arrest warrant on the suspect at a traffic safety checkpoint on the Airport Road. The suspect, Brian Miller (age 36) of Eastman, was a passenger in a vehicle that came through the traffic safety check point. Miller has been charged with manufacturing marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Sheriff’s deputies made two other arrests for marijuana the following day on June 3 in the Cottondale area. Deputies arrested David Wayne Odom (age 46), and Michael McCook (age 48), both of Eastman. Both Odom and McCook were charged with possession of marijuana. [Full Story »]

Sheriff: Keep your property and children safe this summer

School will be out next week in Dodge County. That means many families over the next several weeks and months will be on vacation and older children will be at home while parents continue to work. Dodge County Sheriff Jeff Hinson reminds citizens that burglaries and child safety issues usually increase during the summer months.
Sheriff Hinson says that citizens should protect their property by doing several common sense things.
First, stop the delivery of your mail and newspapers to your residence if you are going to be away from home, or have a neighbor or trusted friend pick it up for you. An overflowing mailbox or newspaper box is an invitation to a thief that no one is home.
Second, have someone tend to your yard and pets while you are gone.
Third, have a neighbor or trusted friend check your property daily.
Fourth, notify the sheriff’s office and/or the police department that you will be out of town so that law enforcement might periodically check on your property while making patrols in the area.
You should provide law enforcement with a phone number where you can be reached and a local contact person who can come see about your property. [Full Story »]

Dodge County commissioners approved a proclamation at their meeting on Monday, May 16, proclaiming the week of May 15 through May 21 as Police Week in Dodge County. Dodge County Sheriff Jeff Hinson and several of his deputies were in attendance at the meeting for the signing of the proclamation. Dodge County sheriff’s deputies have been kept busy with some unusual traffic related incidents over the past two weeks.
Over the weekend deputies were called to a residence on Sparrow Lane to a domestic dispute. Deputies discovered that an individual who had been living at the residence became angry at other residents of the home and left. After the individual left the inside of the residence, he allegedly intentionally rammed his vehicle into the residence with other occupants still inside the home. The individual was arrested by deputies. Deputies have charged Jimmy Randall (age 52), of Eastman, with aggravated assault, criminal damage to property and driving under the influence (DUI) in connection with the incident. [Full Story »]

Drug task force set to host second pill take back event; Community encouraged to turn in unwanted, expired prescriptions

On Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Oconee Drug Task Force, in partnership with the Eastman Police Department and Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.
Bring your medications for disposal to the Oconee Drug Task Force located in front of the new Dodge County High School at 327 Pearl Bates Avenue in Eastman. The service is free and anonymous. Personnel will be on hand to properly dispose of the medications with no questions asked.
This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home medicine cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse.
Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S., to include rural Georgia, are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. [Full Story »]

Dodge deputies continue to arrest alleged drug dealers

Sheriff’s narcotic investigators have arrested and charged four (4) more alleged local drug dealers. On Thursday, March 31, sheriff’s investigators arrested Sammy James Walker, Sr. (age 47), of Eastman. Walker has been charged with the sale of cocaine by investigators.
The following day investigators arrested Charles Fullwood (age 29), of Eastman. Fullwood is also charged with the sale of cocaine by narcotic investigators.
On Tuesday, sheriff’s investigators secured drug arrest warrants on two (2) additional suspects who were already in jail on other criminal charges. Narcotics investigators have charged Johnny Tuff (age 47) and Antonio Flint (age 29), both of Eastman, with one (1) count each for the sale of cocaine. [Full Story »]
