Dodge County sheriff’s deputies arrested two (2) people for the distribution of drugs after an undercover operation. Allen Nowell (age 29), of Macon, and Tabitha Anne Payne (age 38), of Eastman, were taken into custody on Wednesday, April 11, at an Eastman shopping center parking lot by sheriff’s deputies. Nowell has been charged with possession of methamphetamines with intent to distribute. Payne has been charged with possession of Schedule II narcotics with intent to distribute and an additional count of possession of Schedule IV narcotics with intent to distribute. [Full Story »] 

This is a continuation of the court cases heard in Dodge Superior Court recently.

Sheila Mae Durham was charged with one count of felony theft by taking, which was reduced to a misdemeanor theft by taking. Durham received 12 months probation, was fined $350.00 and restitution as determined. [Full Story »]

Malcolm Collins was indicted on one count of felony theft by shoplifting.

Roger Albert Jackson was indicted on one count of felony theft by shoplifting.

Keisha Mitchell was indicted on one count of felony theft by shoplifting.

Sebrina Mitchell was indicted on one count of felony theft by shoplifting.

Bridget Roberson was indicted on one count of felony by shoplifting.

Two Dodge State Prison correctional officers were arrested Sunday at the prison in Chester. Dodge County sheriff’s deputies were called to the prison to transport the correctional officers to the Dodge County jail. The correctional officers were booked into the Dodge County jail and transferred to another undisclosed jail facility due to the current Dodge County jail not being able to segregate inmates for safety.
Correctional officer Jonathan Bernum Payne, Sr. (age 21), of Cochran, is accused by the Georgia Department of Corrections (DOC) of smuggling marijuana, cocaine and cell phones into the prison. Copies of the arrest warrant state that Payne attempted to smuggle over four (4) ounces of marijuana and nearly eight (8) grams of cocaine into the prison along with cell phones. Payne has been charged with possessing and delivering drugs to inmates, use of a telecommunications device to distribute drugs, conspiracy to commit a crime, and violation of his oath of office. A Dodge County man reported to the sheriff’s office that his Honda dirt bike motorcycle has been stolen from his residence on the Middle Ground Church Road on New Years Day. The motorcycle has been recovered in Laurens County and sheriff’s investigators have made an arrest in the case. [Full Story »] 

Two state inmates escaped from a Georgia Department of Corrections’ (DOC) work detail on Dodge Avenue in Eastman last Thursday morning, February 2. The inmates were captured Monday night in Jacksonville, Florida by law enforcement officials and are awaiting extradition back to Georgia. The inmates have each been charged with felony escape charges. The first inmate, Michael Loren Chapman (age 21), of Douglas, was serving a sentence for burglary and theft by taking. The second inmate, Jimmy Lee Gray (age 22), of Abbeville, was serving a sentence for theft by taking. [Full Story »]
