The unemployment rate for people with a college degree or higher is 5 percent. If that were the rate for everyone, it’d be the 1990s again.
But college graduates are only 30 percent of the country. For the rest of the population, the jobs picture is grimmer. For people without a high-school degree, the unemployment rate is more than 15 percent. If that were the rate for everyone, it’d be the 1930s again. [Full Story »]

It is Christmas and a very special time of gift giving. Jesus Christ is the greatest gift giver of all. If all of Eastman were asked what gift would you give Jesus Christ this Christmas; there would be many different answer. Although some might be the same answer.

While the December holidays mean a time of family and fellowship for most, this season can also bring tragedy for many who travel. Our state and federal crash data show the period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s is one of the most dangerous times to be a traveler. I have participated in the Eastman Lions Christmas Parade at least 12 times as a band director, music educator, or Eastman Lions Club member. Each year, the Lions Club does a wonderful job trying to provide enjoyment for the Dodge County community. Dear editor,
(I) just read the article by Mrs. Glass thanking voters for electing another new school board member. The process has worked once again! Or has it? Let’s look at the numbers. In all actuality, the election was decided by less than 40 percent of the voters in that district. So 21 percent of the voters of District 3 decided who was to be representing them on the school board. That is a shame. [Full Story »]

In 1223, St. Francis of Assisi simply and joyfully commemorated the scene of the Nativity according to the infancy gospel, and the crib thus became one of the traditional and best- loved symbols of Christmas. In the crib we contemplate the One who stripped himself of divine glory in order to become poor, driven by love for mankind. Beside the crib the Christmas tree, with its twinkling lights, reminds us that with the birth of Jesus the tree of life has blossomed anew in the desert of humanity. Why do some merchants and media call it just a holiday? People stand in line at malls after Thanksgiving and rush through the doors to buy, buy and buy.
Is this Christmas?

Partly, but the true meaning of the Christmas Season is about the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas is also about helping people.
During the year of our Lord 1919, the folks of Atlanta, Georgia were preparing for Christmas. This holy day was a special time for family, friends and children. People went to church or synagogue and gave thanks to God for their many blessings.
