Indians defeat Tigers in Swainsboro, 13-9

The Dodge County Indians traveled to Swainsboro this past Friday night to play the Swainsboro High School Tigers. The Indians (1-2) were seeking their second win of the season against the 2010 defending region champs. Swainsboro (0-3) has not won a game this year.

Swainsboro won the opening coin toss. The Tigers opted to defer to the second half of the game. Dodge received the opening kickoff and began play on the 19-yard line of Swainsboro. D’Eric McNair (#11) would lead the Indians with a combination of hand-offs and passes for two consecutive first downs. The Indians moved the ball to the 42-yard line but were forced to punt on fourth down.

The Tigers began their first drive in the first quarter and moved the ball consistently downfield and quickly scored the first points of the game with a touchdown run into the end zone. The extra point attempt failed and Swainsboro led the ballgame 6 to 0. [Full Story »]

The Dodge County Middle School Warriors opened their 2011 football season last Wednesday as they hosted Dublin. The Warriors unfortunately would struggle throughout as they dropped a 40-0 game to the Irish. Dodge will try to get in the win column this Thursday as they travel to Dublin to play West Laurens. The Dodge County Middle School Lady Warriors continued to roll along as they began region play in their 2011 softball season. The Lady Warriors were tested Tuesday in Vidalia as they hung on to an early lead for a 4-3 win. The tests would end there for the Lady Warriors. Dodge would welcome Swainsboro on Thursday for a 23-2 pounding in a 2 1/2-inning game. Dodge would score 15 runs in the first inning. On Saturday, Dodge would travel to Dublin for Diamond Day put on by West Laurens. Dodge would play Bleckley County in their first game. Dodge scored five runs in the first and would coast to a 16-1 win. East Laurens would take a shot at Dodge next, but they had little chance, as Dodge would roll to a 19-0 win. [Full Story »]

The Dodge County Indians hosted the Lucy Laney Wildcats at Memorial Stadium in Eastman this past Friday night. This was the first region game of the 2011 season. Both teams came into the game with a 1-1 record. Dodge County was looking to keep their win streak alive against a tough Laney team. [Full Story »]

The Dodge County Indians hosted the Toombs County Bulldogs at Memorial Stadium in Eastman this past Friday night for their first home game of the season. Both the Indians and the Bulldogs were looking for their first win of the 2011 season. The Indians won last year’s battle between these teams and were looking to keep their winning streak alive with another win.

Toombs won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. Dodge County received the opening kickoff. Curtis Rushing, #8, returned the ball 10-yards. The Indian started their first drive on their own 31-yard line. A first down off side penalty against Toombs resulted in a 5-yard gain and the Indians began play on first and five on their 36-yard line. D’Eric McNair, #11, handed the ball off up the middle and the Indians fumbled the ball. Toombs took over on the Indian 36-yard line. [Full Story »]

The Dodge County Middle School Lady Warriors softball team participated in the Jeff Davis Middle School Softball “Stinger Classic” August 26-27. The Lady Warriors were undefeated in the 14 team tournament.

The Lady Warriors faced Martha Puckett Middle School from Wayne County. Briana Perdue pitches the first four innings allowing four hits, one walk, three strikeouts, and only two runs scored.

Haley Holloway came in to relieve Perdue in the 5th, and she allowed two walks, three hits, two strikeouts, and two runs also scored. Offensively, Margaret Simmons, Allie Parkerson, and Kaylee Peterson were all 2-4, with Dodge winning 9-4.

On Saturday, Dodge faced North Effingham Middle School. The game was scoreless up until the fourth inning when Effingham scored on a hit to deep centerfield. Dodge’s bats finally came alive in the bottom of the fifth with a single by Leah Creech and a triple by Macy Rogers. [Full Story »]
