Indians defeat Screven and lose to Swainsboro in region tournament

The Dodge County High Indian basketball team played two
games last week in the Region 3AA Tournament held at Swainsboro High School.

The Indians faced Screven County in the first round on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 and defeated the Gamecocks, 68-50.

The win advanced the Indians to region quarterfinals on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 against Swainsboro. The Indians fell short to the Tigers 53-58 on their homecourt.

The Tigers would go on to win the region championship over previously unbeaten Laney on Saturday.

Indians play tough in scrimmage game

The Dodge County Indian baseball team played host to Brantley
County in a scrimmage game to open this year’s baseball season
on Friday, February 18.

Senior Clint Taylor was slated as the starter for the game.
Taylor pitched three innings and recorded five strikeouts, no walks
and gave up only one hit to the ten batters he faced. [Full Story »]

Squaws take second in Region 3AA tournament; host Cook Co. in first round of state this Friday

The Dodge County High Squaws basketball team played two games
in the region 3AA tournament this past week in Swainsboro.

The Squaws defeated Screven County in the region semi-finals on Friday,
February 18, 2011 by a score of 50-32.

The win advanced Dodge to the region championship game on Saturday,
February 19, 2011 against the fourth ranked Laney Wildcats.

The Squaws lost to the Wildcats, 55-74. The Squaws are now 17-9
and are the Region 3AA runner-ups. [Full Story »]

Dodge County High School Senior Squaw Michelle Mitchell

was honored for scoring the 1000th point of her high school

career during Saturday’s basketball game with Telfair County.

She scored her 1000th point with basket at the 6:46 mark of

the first quarter and was honored by Coach Carol Smith and

the team as she was presented with the game ball.

The Dodge County High School Squaws basketball team finished their regular season schedule with three games last week. The Squaws won two of the three games to improve their overall record to 16-8.

Dodge split games with AAAA Northside Warner Robins as they defeated the Lady Eagles in Eastman on Tuesday, February 8 by a score of 41-40 and then traveled to Warner Robins on Friday, February 11 and lost to the Lady Eagles, 56-60 in two real competitive games.

The Dodge County High Indian basketball team finished their regular season schedule with three games last week. The Indians won two of the three games to improve their overall record to 15-6.
Dodge split games with AAAA Northside Warner Robins as they defeated the Eagles in Eastman on Tuesday, February 8 by a score of 70-65 and then traveled to Warner Robins on Friday, February 11 and lost to the Eagles, 68-72 in two real competitive games. The Indians finished out the week on Saturday, February 12 by defeating Telfair County, 66-29.
The Indians now move on to the Region 3AA Tournament to be held at Swainsboro High School. The Indians finished as the number three team in sub-region 3AA B and were scheduled to play Screven County on Tuesday, February 15 at 8:30 p.m. in the first round of the tournament. [Full Story »]

Grappling Indians bring medals home from tournament

Seven Grappling Indians from Dodge County High School recently earned medals and a spot in the upcoming state sectional tournament.

These seven place winners are a tremendous reflection on the wrestling program as they more than doubled the number of medals the team has won previously at the Traditional Area tournament.

Led by number one seed and team captain Rhett Honeycutt, the Grappling Indians performed extremely well at every weight class they entered. [Full Story »]

Peterson Signs

Chelsey Peterson (formerly of Eastman) will continue her softball career at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon next year. The West Laurens High School senior signed a letter of intent to play softball for the Barons on Thursday, January 27, 2011.
Peterson commented, “Long time friend Derek Taylor talked to me a lot about going to Brewton-Parker to play softball. He played there after high school and after I started taking hitting lessons for Barron Coach Jason Bryant, it just kind of clicked and I decided to go there.
My first year will be devoted in memory of my friend, Derek.” She also received an academic scholarship from Brewton-Parker. Peterson is the daughter of Josh and Pam (Wright) Brooks of Dublin and Keith Peterson of Eastman and the granddaughter of C.W. and Ann Wright of Eastman.
