The Dodge County Indian baseball team hosted the Lovett Lions in the Sweet 16 Round of the Georgia High School Association state playoffs, Wednesday, May 9, 2012. The Indians lost both games and were eliminated from the remainder of the post-season.

Lovett would have to face left-handed pitcher Devin Northcutt in the first game. The first batter flied out to center field and the second batter reached on a bunt. The third hitter was then called out on batter’s interference as he blocked Indian catcher Jordan Smith from making a throw to second base on a stolen base attempt. [Full Story »] 

The Dodge County Indian baseball team roared into the playoffs on Friday, May 4, 2012 and came away with two wins against the Lamar County Trojans. Jordan Smith got the 7-2 win for the Indians in the first game and Aron Chick won the second game, 8-4.

After a two-week layoff, the Indians looked rusty as they took the field in the first round of the state playoffs. The first inning was rather uneventful for the Indians though it was apparent from a couple of walks and a wild pitch that Smith was not as sharp as usual.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Indians got a hit, two walks and a sacrifice, along with a wild pitch to go up 2-0. With two outs in the second inning, Smith committed a throwing error while trying to throw out a speedy runner who was attempting a bunt hit. However, the play was backed up by right fielder Devin Northcutt who made a strong and accurate throw to second base to cut down the greedy runner and ended the inning.

Dodge County Lady Indians Tennis team advanced to the sweet sixteen in state playoffs.

The boys fell short in the first round of state playoffs.

The Dodge County High School Lady Indians tennis team defeated Pike County 5-0 to advance to the sweet sixteen in the class AA state tennis playoffs. [Full Story »] 

The Dodge County Indians baseball team became the Region 3 champions on Monday after the Bleckley County Royals lost to the Swainsboro Tigers and both the East Laurens Falcons and Dublin Irish won their region crossover games. That means that three of the four teams from the “B” side of Region 3 will be advancing to the state playoffs on Friday, May 4. [Full Story »] 

The boys and girls Dodge County High School tennis teams began their season at home on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 against the West Laurens Raiders. The boys lost 0-5 and the girls lost 1-4. Virginia Hargrove was the sole winner of the day at number one singles winning 3-6, 6-2 and 6-4.
Dodge hosted Telfair County on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 and both the boys and the girls got their first victory of the young season. [Full Story »] 

The Dodge County Indians baseball team played three Region 3B-AA sub-region games in the past two weeks, winning two and losing one. The Indians began the week of April 16 tied for first place in the sub-region with Bleckley County.

Dodge traveled to Cochran to take on the Bleckley County Royals on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 for the second of three games with their biggest region rival. The Indians won the first game in Eastman 8-4 on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Bleckley expected to even-up the season series and the game drew a large crowd supporting both schools. On Friday night, March 30, the Dodge County High School (DCHS) Indians traveled to South East Bulloch High School (SEBHS) in Statesboro to play against their strongest opponent of the season. Unfortunately, for both the Lady Indians and the Indians, we returned home defeated. [Full Story »] 

Dodge County High School Students archery team members Blayre Durden, Alicia Linzy, and Joshua Peterson competed in the National Archery in the Schools Program State Tournament recently. Durden and Peterson placed first and Linzy placed second. They will compete individually and with their team, who also qualified to attend nationals, at the National Archery in the Schools Program National Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky in May.

The Dodge County High School and Dodge County Middle School cheerleaders hosted a 5K and one-mile fun run in memory of Zach Jones on Saturday, March 24, 2012.

Whether you came to run, walk, or just cheer on your favorite participant, everyone involved had a great time.

Participants included various teachers throughout the community, students, the athletic director of Dodge County, and the general public.
John and Holly Jones walked in honor of their son and Krista Brenner, Zach’s fiancé, who came to town and walked with Zach’s parents.
