The Dodge County School District and the Dodge County Board of Education filed a notice of intent on December 8, 2011 to introduce local legislation at the 2012 Georgia General Assembly. The Oconee Drug Task Force (ODTF), Dodge County sheriff’s deputies, and Eastman police officers served a search warrant at a residence on Smith Street in Eastman on Friday, December 9. Law enforcement officers seized a significant quantity of suspected cocaine and cash from the residence as result of the search. Agents have charged Jerome Carson (age 54), of Eastman, with two (2) counts of the sale of cocaine along with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute. [Full Story »]

“Red” Roland is chosen grand marshal of parade

Longtime recreation legend James (Red) Roland has been named Grand Marshal for this year’s Christmas parade that is sponsored by the Eastman Lions Club. The parade will be held on Saturday, December 10 starting at 1:00 p.m.

Roland began his recreation career in 1979 as James Woodard and Billy Jump ran the department. The first lug tournament Roland worked in Dodge County was the Dodge County Shootout. The event brought teams from all over the state. Roland then worked with Tim Wingate. Roland also worked with Jacque Tripp, of whom Roland said, “Jacque did a great job.” And finally Roland worked with Bodie Gray, who has been a “great friend over his 11 years”.

Roland coached and played all over the Southeast. He was the famous “Bobby’s” from Chester in 1980. Roland coached mostly the women’s game in the 1990s through the early 2000s.

Roland has also been a set figure at many local high school events. He spent many years working for coaches John Peacock and Greg Robinson. [Full Story »]

Rhine council agrees to allow former employee to pay $7,000 restitution

The Rhine City Council agreed to accept an agreement prepared by city attorney Joey Marchant for former employee June Sheffield to pay restitution of $300.00 per month with a final payment of $100.00 over a period of 23 months. Marchant informed council that Sheffield agreed to the restitution and agreed to signing the agreement with the first payment due on January 15, 2012. [Full Story »]

Doris Reaves Adams (l) and Sheila Wilcox (r) will be the Grand Marshals for the 2011 annual Christmas parade in Rhine. The parade is scheduled for Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. Adams, a Rhine native, is the daughter of Holsey and Rachel Reaves. She is married to Richard Adams. She has two children, Raymond Mixon and Demetrius Mixon-Vermont. Adams is a proud member of New Austin CME Church where she works faithfully on the usher board, stewardess board, trustee board, missionary team and Sunday school. She enjoys volunteering and assisting children on the computers at the Rhine Resource Center. Wilcox is the daughter of Mattie and Jimmy Wilcox. Her immediate family includes Terry, Corvon and Zyan. Wilcox is a proud member of St. James Baptist Church and enjoys volunteering at the Rhine Resource Center. Wilcox enjoys helping and encouraging others. Adams and Wilcox will host a Christmas party immediately following the Christmas parade at the Rhine Resource Center to collect toys for the toy drive.
