A car and an 18-wheeler collided at the intersection of Griffin Street and Legion Drive when the driver of the car apparently pulled into the path of the truck.

According to the police report, Lile Low (76), of Eastman, was driving his 1995 Ford Crown Victoria east on Griffin Street when he attempted to turn left onto Legion Drive, pulling into the path of Matthew Steven Johnson (29), of Eastman, who was driving a 2000 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer west on Griffin Street.

The accident happened at approximately 9:38 a.m. on Friday, July 23.

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill continues to threaten the environmental and economic health of the Gulf Coast.

The Boys and Girls Club of Dodge County would like to invite everyone to attend our Dessert Theatre, Summer of the Stars on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

The evening will begin in the new club building that staff have renamed the Performing Arts Center (PAC).

Dessert will be served by our teenage Torch Club members, with a delicious menu including brownies and ice cream sundaes with a variety of toppings.

A Milan man was injured when he apparently lost control of the vehicle he was driving, ran off the roadway and overturned, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Irven Gaskins (59), of Milan, was driving a 2000 GMC Jimmy east on the Milan Eastman Road at approximately 2:32 p.m. when he ran off the left side of the roadway, over corrected, ran back across the road into the ditch and overturned.

The accident happened on Saturday, July 17.

Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, July 20 to vote for democrat and republican candidates in the General Primary for federal, state and local elections.

The primary will decide which democrat will face which republican in the November General Election to hold those seats.

Races range from the U.S. Senate to Georgia governor to Dodge County commissioners.

Superintendent of elections John Kelly has called for a special election to fill the vacancy in the office of Dodge County School Board District 4 caused by the resignation of Michelle Wahl. [Full Story »] 

The following cases were disposed of in Dodge Superior Court on July 6.


Joyce Edge was charged with one count felony aggravated assault. She was found guilty and received seven years probation and a $1,250.00 fine.

Timothy Cole Braddy was charged with one count misdemeanor public drunkenness. He received 12 months probation and a $350.00 fine.

Kenneth Haight was charged with one count felony theft by receiving stolen property. He received five years probation and a $500.00 fine. He was also charged with one count felony theft by receiving stolen property, for which he received five years probation to run concurrent with prior and a $500.00 fine. [Full Story »] 

An Eastman woman was lifeflighted to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon after the car she was driving ran off the roadway and hit two culverts on Friday, July 9 at approximately 6:15 a.m., according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Keisha Kimberly Walker (22), was driving east on Friendship Church Road when the accident occurred.

Rescue personnel had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate her from the 2005 Chevrolet Impala.

Her condition was not known as of presstime.
