The Dodge County High School Grappling Indians recently hit the mat in their first tournament kicking off the fourth season as a high school wrestling team.

Competing at the East Laurens Falcon Classic Tournament, 12 wrestlers battled against teams across Georgia testing their physical and mental toughness.

During the two-day event, the grappling Indians displayed exceptional sportsmanship and class.

They were praised by many coaches from other schools, for their aggressive style and positive attitudes.

Winning matches for the Indians were Michael Wrease, 103 pounds; DJ Wilcox, 145 pounds; and John Mullis, 215 pounds. [Full Story »] 

A Dodge County woman died Saturday afternoon, November 20, as the result of a traffic accident.

Dodge County emergency personnel responded to a single vehicle accident around 2:49 p.m. on Georgia Highway 257 near mile marker 5 (five).

Volunteer firefighters and Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer, which had overturned several times before leaving the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle was ejected from the wreckage, according to emergency personnel.

There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

The driver was transported to Dodge County Hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and was later pronounced dead, according to Dodge County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Captain Tony Winborn. [Full Story »] 

Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies received a report of the theft of a 2006, 14 foot Smoker Craft Boat from a residence on Abbeville Highway on Sunday, November 7.

Sheriff’s investigators recovered the stolen boat two (2) days later.


The alleged thieves had removed the vehicle identification plate from the boat.

Investigators, upon closer examination of the boat, were able to locate a hidden vehicle identification number on the boat which positively identified the boat as the one previously reported stolen.

Sheriff’s investigators have arrested two (2) Eastman men in connection with the boat theft. [Full Story »] 

Abby Greer recently traveled to Gainesville State College to compete in the USA Gymnastics Georgia State Meet.



Competing for the Emerald City Gymnastics Club in Dublin, Greer turned in impressive performances on the beam, bars, vault and floor.



After a long day of competition against the best gymnasts in Georgia, Greer’s overall score landed her in second place for the All-Around title just missing the champion mark by less than one point.



Her efforts helped the Emerald City club win an impressive second place team trophy out of nine teams competing.
