The first ever little league state tournament kicked off Thursday at the Eastman-Dodge Recreation Department as the 7-8 year old girls tournament invaded Eastman.
Macy Pruett kicked things off with the National Anthem just before the 5:00 p.m. games.
Dodge opened up play with a tough draw against a tough Wilcox County team. Dodge trailed 4-1 in the bottom of the third before starting a comeback. Linzy Bowen, Aniyah Black and Madison Hardy scored runs to tie the game at 4-4. The game was still tied at 4-4 when a weather delay slowed things down for better than an hour. Dodge would take their first lead as Rhesa Dopson and Aniya Black scored to give Dodge a 6-4 lead. Dodge would tally with four runs in the sixth for an 8-6 lead. Dodge would score a run in the bottom of the inning, but fall just short for the 8-7 final. [Full Story »]

A 3-1 vote by the Dodge County Board of Commissioners will allow Dodge County Sheriff Jeff Hinson to get four new patrol cars.
Sheriff Hinson went before the commissioners at their May 18 meeting and requested that they sign a lease that would allow the sheriff’s office to purchase four new cars. After explaining to the commissioners that 10 of the sheriff’s fleet have more than 200,000 miles on them, eight other vehicles have more than 150,000 miles on them and that the four newest cars and a 2004 Chrysler P/T have 55,000 or less miles on them, commissioner Terry Niblett made the motion to go ahead and sign a lease allowing the sheriff to purchase the new cars. The Dodge County All-Star 12U Girls competed in the Class C State Softball Tournament July 6-9 at the Appling County Recreation Complex in Baxley. The Dodge County girls went undefeated in the tournament, as well as the all-star season with a record of 21-0. In the state tournament play, the team scored a total of 50 runs in five games while only allowing seven runs. This is the third state win in three years for Coach Brian Perdue as well as five of the players, Briana Perdue, Kaylee Peterson, Faith Manning, Leah Creech, and Lindsey Crummey. According to a statement made by EDCRD director Bodie Gray, “We are building a dynasty”.
Dodge began state tournament play by facing host Appling County. Dodge defeated them 11-2. Pitcher was Briana Perdue, who had seven strikeouts for the game. Margaret Simmons, Allie Parkerson, and Kaylee Peterson were all 3-3 for the game. [Full Story »]
