Former Dodge County Sheriff Lawton Douglas, age 38, and one of his former deputies, Olin Norman Gibson, aka “BoBo”, age 43, were sentenced at the federal courthouse in Dublin by The Honorable Dudley H. Bowen, Jr. on Monday, June 28, 2010.

Judge Bowen sentenced Douglas to 18 months in prison to be followed by a three year term of supervised release, a $2,000.00 fine and 150 hours of community service.

Gibson was sentenced to four months in prison, a three year term of supervised release, a $1,000.00 fine and 150 hours of community service. [Full Story »]

Julius Gillespie and Diana Glass, representing a formed Concerned Citizens Group, filed an appeal to a ruling by Judge Sarah Wall on a suit they filed claiming that school board members were improperly conducting meetings, stating that board members were by improperly going into executive session, receiving evidence in executive session and also that several criminal laws were being violated. Six Dodge County School system staff members’ contracts were not renewed because of budget cuts, according to Dodge County School Superintendent Dr. Darrel May.

They were:
South Dodge Elementary (SDE) – teachers Tracey Harrell and Mallory White; Dodge County Middle School (DCMS) – paraprofessional Chris Screws and Dodge County High School (DCHS) – technology teacher Kevin Head, graduation coach Bernadette Holmes and paraprofessional Llona Smith.

On March 26, 2010 Dodge County faculty and staff members received notification of Phase 1 of the anticipated budget cuts approved by the school board. [Full Story »]
