Captain Tony Winborn, of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, has been named as the assistant area coordinator for the South Central Traffic Enforcement Network (SCTEN) of the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). The South Central Network covers forty five (45) different law enforcement agencies in twelve (12) Middle Georgia Counties, including Dodge, Bleckley, Telfair, Wheeler, Montgomery, Laurens, Emanuel, Johnson, Treutlen, Toombs, Washington and Wilkinson Counties.
Winborn’s duties will include coordination of enforcement activities between the different law enforcement agencies within the network along with providing training for law enforcement personnel. Additional duties will include data reporting for the agencies to the GOHS. The network meets monthly for a training session and to conduct traffic safety checkpoints at a different location each month within the twelve (12) counties. The network also conducts public education on traffic safety issues and laws. Any agency within the network can call upon the resources of others within the network to address highway safety issues.
Dodge County Sheriff Jeff Hinson stated, “It is an honor that one of Dodge County’s deputies has been chosen for this important leadership post for the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. Dodge County traffic fatalities dropped from a record high of seven (7) in 2008 to zero (0) in 2009. Four (4) of those fatalities in 2008 were the result of alcohol involved crashes. In 2010 we had three (3) Dodge County deputies receive awards from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) for the diligent enforcement of the Driving Under the Influence (DUI) laws of the state. Tony will be a benefit to the regional network in bringing some of Dodge’s success to the network.”
