City tells county they’ll accept 31.14 percent of LOST

The Eastman City Council voted unanimously to send Dodge County a letter that they would agree to accept 31.14 percent of the one percent Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) funds for the next 10 years with no stipulations. That is the same amount they have been receiving for the past 20 years.

At their last meeting, the county voted to send a proposal to the city that they would give the city 27 percent of the LOST funds. [Full Story »]

Dear editor,
Crying with no tears.
When one can cry and shed no tears, they must be hurting pretty badly. As we look at the response of many Americans to the many problems that are going on, one must think that they are crying but we see no tears. Many Americans seem to be living out the old cliché after all is said and done, more is said than done. [Full Story »]

Thanks to the generous efforts of Eastman residents, thousands of hurting children worldwide will have the opportunity to experience the joy of Christmas. Eastman residents joined Operation Christmas Child, the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind, to pack 5,365 shoe boxes with toys, school supplies and necessity items. County draws on line of credit to pay bills

After receiving approval from the Colony Bank for a 2.75 million dollar line of credit for the year 2012, Dodge County commissioners held a called meeting on Monday, January 30 at 9:00 a.m. to draw some of the funds so that past due bills could be paid.

Interim Dodge County Manager Bobby Peacock informed the board that the minimum amount that could be drawn was $250,000.00. [Full Story »]
