Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies have responded to numerous fights and altercations over the last several weeks. On Tuesday, August 24, deputies and Eastman police officers responded to a 911 call of a man laying beside the roadway on the Soperton Highway just outside of Eastman. Deputies found a forty two (42) year old man beaten, unconscious and left by the roadway.
Deputies went to a nearby residence to investigate what had happened to the man. Two (2) Dodge County deputies and an Eastman officer ended up in a physical altercation with an intoxicated suspect. The suspect and a deputy fell through a glass table during the altercation. The deputy received some superficial cuts on his arm. The suspect was subdued after officers deployed a Taser® on the suspect. Deputies have arrested Walter W. Singletary (age 32), of Eastman. Singletary is charged with aggravated assault on the citizen and felony obstruction of law enforcement officers.
Deputies have arrested James Edward “Bubba” Bass on a warrant sworn out by a citizen after a fight earlier in the month in the parking lot of the Kuntry Mart in Gresston. A thirty two (32) year old man alleges that Bass struck him with an unknown object causing the victim to have to receive medical treatment.
Sheriff’s investigators have solved a burglary that occurred at the old Hendrix School on the Soperton Highway. Investigators state that the old school building belongs to a farmer who was storing tools and equipment inside the locked building. Investigators have arrested and charged Jeffrey Dewayne Herndon (age 39), of Eastman, with burglary. Two (2) other people have also been arrested in connection with the investigation. Investigators have arrested Jacey McCranie (age 20) and Oscar Tommy Wilkerson (age 31), both of Eastman. McCranie and Wilkerson are each charged with theft by receiving stolen property. Wilkerson was out of jail on bond from previous charges in Laurens County and was also wanted by Telfair County on outstanding warrants.
Wendall Scott Mullis (age 37), of Chester, has been arrested by sheriff’s investigators and charged with burglary. Investigators allege that Mullis broke into a business in Chester.
Investigators have arrested Timothy Ledbetter (age 19), of Cochran. Ledbetter is charged with statutory rape in connection with an incident that occurred on Chicken Road in Dodge County.
