BREAKING NEWS: Shooting/Death Investigation

Dodge County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a shooting on Sunday, August 22, 2010 around 3:15 p.m. at 511 Chester Highway.

Deputies arrived to find Billy Ray Fountain (age 40) deceased with several gunshot wounds.

Another person present at the residence was not shot but was treated and released from Dodge County Hospital for other injuries.

A manhunt ensued for the alleged offender who fled on foot from the residence.

Michael Dean Crenshaw (age 40) was located and taken into custody around 5:30 P.M. on North Street in Eastman, less than ½ mile from the scene.

Crenshaw has been charged with murder by law enforcement officials.

Preliminary reports indicate that the three (3) men began arguing at the residence when Crenshaw allegedly pulled out a pistol and began firing. Deputies say that alcohol was involved.

Dodge County Sheriff’s Investigators and agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) are continuing to investigate the shooting. Dodge County Deputies were assisted in the manhunt by the Eastman Police Department, the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT), the Georgia State Patrol, the Chauncey Police Department, and the Dodge C.I. K-9 Unit.
