ursday, August 12, 2010, board members voted unanimously to extend the tobacco policy to cover Memorial Stadium as well as other school district facilities.
Superintendent Dr. Darrel May prefaced his recommendation by reading board policy GAN on tobacco usage:
“It is the policy of the Dodge County Board of Education to prohibit any form of tobacco use in all school district buildings, buses and enclosed work areas that are used for provision of routine or regular kindergarten, elementary, secondary education or library services to children.

The signs should carry the Chantix warnings to prevent steering people to a product that kills faster than cigarettes.

Thanks Dr Darrel May for protecting our children. Adults should think about what child might be watching them when they light up that cigarette because one might just want to try to do it one day. The reason I said this is because a family member of mine wished she had never smoked after her 18yrs old son picked up the habit from her.

I think this is really stupid, this is an open air Stadium. I could understand if it wasn't, But this isn't the Ga. Dome or an enclosed Stadium. This is just another dumb move on the schools part, and if a kid wants to smoke they're going to do it anyway. I bet 1/2 to 3/4 of the students there are doing it now & they're not learning it all from the adults, but each other. Dumb move once again school board!

Oh well, in the future no kid can say they saw an adult smoking at the Memorial Stadium and this is why they choose to smoke. If the school board is about protecting our kids, I think they should protect them from smokers while they are at any school event but I see that you donot understand how to protect kids and set an example for them as the board is trying to do,so let them do it. There are some people who attend events at the stadium that have lung problems that cannot tolerate second hand smoke so therefore this is a good rule to put into effect to protect them also. Smokers know how to find a hideout so others donot encounter their smoke. If I had a say so I would tell the board to fine all smokers that break this rule.

The wind can blow smoke in other people direction even if it is an open air stadium. So hello, learn about how the wind can change directions so a whiff of smoke doesnot come your way.

All businesses should have employees smoke outside the back of the building. I detest going to a store and having to smell the smoke from employees outside smoking or the standing ash trays. And I know the ash trays are for the customers use, but please move them farther from the doors.

Frankly, Dodge County is slow to come to this decision. This is/has been a policy in most East Coast schools for years. No smoking ~ anywhere ~ on the school grounds by anyone, anywhere. No exceptions.
