Dodge County Sheriff Jeff Hinson reports that sheriff’s investigators have solved several burglaries and thefts.
Investigators have arrested three (3) people in connection with the burglary that occurred on Florida Avenue in Chester.
Sheriff’s investigators have charged Otell Redmon age (19), Calvin Jerome Redmon (age 25), and Malcolm Miller (age 24), all of Chester, with burglary.
Investigators have also arrested and charged James Tharpe (age 54), of Chester, with felony theft by taking. Investigators allege that Tharpe stole property from a farm on the Chicken Road outside of Chester.
Sheriff’s investigators have arrested Charles Jay Mullis (age 40) of Eastman with two (2) counts of felony theft by taking. Investigators allege that Mullis stole property, including a golf cart, from the Cottondale area of Eastman.
Investigators have arrested another individual in connection with the theft from several farms in the Chauncey-Rhine Highway (GA 165) area. Ella Denise McCormick (age 40), of Helena, has been charged with two (2) counts of burglary and felony theft by taking in connection with the cases. Investigators have sworn out an additional arrest warrant on another suspect from Telfair County in connection with the case.
On Monday, August 16, Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies assisted federal law enforcement agents from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPS) in serving a search warrant on property belonging to Lister Harrell off of the Ocmulgee Church Road. Sheriff’s officials declined to comment on the nature of the investigation. Sheriff Hinson stated that Dodge County deputies were present to assist the federal agents with man-power and security. Hinson referred all questions to the EPA and/or the U.S. Attorney due to the investigation being a federal matter.
