I usually drive through the middle school back parking lot once a week on my way to do some mapping or to check out a missing road or street sign on that side of town. I have begun to notice a difference in the look of the athletic facilities.
Personally, I would have loved to have seen a new sports complex built along with the new high school, however I also understand the financial limits the BOE had to deal with. The new bleachers at the football stadium, the bleachers that were moved from the football stadium to the baseball field, tennis court and softball field have really changed the lay of the land. Everything looks so good, almost new. I don’t ever remember those facilities looking so good.
I really don’t know the names of all the parents and supporters who helped with the baseball field, softball field or tennis courts but I do say thanks for your time and effort. You have done a super job. The football stadium has never looked better. Almost every Saturday and most afternoons, you can see certain individuals up there cutting grass, painting, edging or doing something to make it look better.
Our stadium was named Memorial Stadium when it was built to honor those who fought and died in combat for our great country. It is a special place to so many of us who played and rooted for the Indians for so many years there. I can say I do know the names of the people who have been giving their time to improve the looks of Memorial Stadium and want say thanks to them.
Brian Mullis just wanted to do something to help the program and saw the need at the stadium. He asked Mark Driggers, Nathaniel Wilson and Tony Braswell if they would be interested in helping. Then Mark’s mom and dad, Lucille and Gary Driggers, started helping along with sheriff’s deputy and football parent Lamont Ashford. The football stadium is one we can truly be proud of and will be a very impressive sight for the visiting team and fans.
Like the E-911 operators are unseen heroes, these hard working fans and parents are silent heroes. I just want to say thank you for your time, thoughtfulness and willingness. This is the kind of support a winning high school athletic program has.
I hope to see everyone at a DCHS athletic event this year. Support Athletic Director Lee Campbell and the Dodge County Indians.
Thanks,
Forrest Woodard, director
