The Dodge County Indians football team opened up their 2009 season with a 27-0 win over the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets in Brooklet on Friday, August 28. The Indians had 254 yards of total offense with 212 yards coming on the ground. Cyprin Burse, Devon Simmons and Laquan Hogue led the Indians’ running backs. Burse rushed for 77 yards on 12 carries with one touchdown. Simmons had 73 yards on 14 attempts with two touchdowns.

Indians take the sting out of Yellow Jackets
Hogue had 53 yards on eight carries and had one touchdown. Dodge had 42 yards passing as Shawn Honeycutt completed four of six passes and had one interception. Tucker Stonecypher caught two passes for 21 yards.
Devon Moorehead caught one pass for 15 yards and Hogue caught one pass for six yards.
The defense was led by Derome Clark with eight tackles and six assists; Laquan Hogue with seven and half tackles and five assists; Michael Knight with five and a half tackles and seven assists; Leonard Floyd with three and a half tackles and five assists; Cyprin Burse with three and a half tackles and seven assists; Tucker Stonecypher had three tackles and six assists; Herschel Anderson had three tackles and six assists; Devon Moorehead had two and a half tackles with five assists.
The Indians scored their first touchdown with six minutes to go in the first quarter on a two yard run by Cyprin Burse. Cole Evans’ point after kick was good and Dodge led 7-0.
The Indians second touchdown came at the 10:59 mark of the third quarter on a Devon Simmons 25 yard touchdown run. Evans’ point after kick was good and Dodge led 14-0.
Dodge’s third touchdown came on a five yard run by Laquan Hogue with 5:30 left in the third. Evans’ kick was good.
The Indians scored their fourth and final touchdown on the night with a 24-yard run with no time left on the clock in the third quarter. Evans’ kick failed and Dodge led 27-0.
The fourth quarter was a chance for the Indians to give some younger players some playing time.
The Indians will host Jefferson County on Friday, September 4 for their home opener, a big region matchup at 7:30 p.m.
