Dodge County Sheriff’s investigators have made arrests in the burglary that occurred at Macedonia Baptist Church July 4.
Sheriff’s investigators received an anonymous tip from the public on July 7 from a citizen who had read about the incident in The Dodge County News.
The citizen was able to provide one (1) name which greatly sped up the solving of the case, according to investigators.
Investigators were already processing physical evidence from the burglary and truck theft that occurred at a residence across from the church.
Investigators had already determined that there were two (2) culprits and several jurisdictions were involved.
Deputies had the pair in custody on July 8. Investigators state that they have confessions in the case. Sheriff’s investigators have arrested Dylan Johnson (age 17) and Isaac Davis (age 21), both of Hawkinsville. Each is charged in Dodge County with burglary, vandalism to a place of worship, theft by taking of a motor vehicle and entering an auto to commit a theft.
Investigators state that the pair allegedly stole several items in Bleckley County where they ditched the truck stolen in Dodge County. The pair then went to Pulaski County and allegedly stole another vehicle and drove to Savannah. Johnson and Davis are facing charges in Dodge, Bleckley, Pulaski and Chatham Counties.
Sheriff Jeff Hinson praised the work of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Investigations Division in quickly solving another multi-jurisdictional crime spree. Hinson would personally like to thank the citizen who took the time to call and help fill in the missing piece of the puzzle. The sheriff stated that through the public’s help and the dedication of deputies to follow every lead, crimes are being solved quickly and efficiently. Sheriff Hinson stated that the public can anonymously call the sheriff’s office and speak to any deputy in confidence with information at any time.
Other felony arrests made by Dodge deputies include Keith Smith (age 42), of Eastman. Smith was charged by investigators with theft by taking. Smith allegedly stole scrap metal from a location off of Fish Road. Sheriff’s investigators have arrested and charged Joshua Lee Terry (age 22), of Eastman with theft by taking. Terry allegedly stole irrigation pipes and a trailer from a farm on the Antioch Church Road and sold them as scrap metal.
