The partially clothed decomposed body of an unidentified male was discovered floating in a lake off of the Reedy Branch Road in Dodge County on Monday evening around 7:00 p.m.
Sheriff’s investigators on the scene called for the assistance of agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) for help in conducting the death investigation.
The body was discovered by a citizen who was fishing in an adjoining pond when he went to investigate the source of an extreme foul odor.
Dodge County Coroner Joe Smith stated that the body has been sent to the State Crime Lab at GBI Headquarters in Atlanta for an autopsy to determine a cause of death.
The autopsy should be able to determine if the person died from drowning or from some sort of foul play, according to the coroner. Smith states that medical examiners at the crime lab will hopefully be able to determine the identity of the deceased male.
Dodge County Sheriff’s Investigator Captain Tony Winborn stated that investigators have a name of a missing Hispanic male from the area, but declined to release the name while the investigation is ongoing.
Winborn stated that investigators and agents, at this point, are trying to identify the deceased person and also determine if the person died by accidental or by criminal means.
