Six out of eight Dodge County recreation department all-star teams won first place in their district games during the week of June 23-26, 2010.
The teams were eight and under girls, eight and under boys, 10 and under boys, 10 and under girls, 12 and under girls and 14 and under girls.
This is the first time in Dodge County and in the District 1 Class C Region that six teams will be playing in the state tournaments.
A total of 72 ballplayers will be representing Dodge County.
Teams in the District 1 Class C Region are Dodge, Hawkinsville, Cochran, Soperton, Johnson County, Wheeler County, Glennville, Reidsville, Screven and Metter.
Team members will be at the red lights and at Wal-mart in Eastman on Friday, July 2, from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.. They will be at the right lights again on Saturday, July 3, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. to collect donations to help with their expenses.
Recreation department director Bodie Gray said, “In the past the recreation department has been able to pay all fees for teams advancing to the state tournaments. With six teams advancing additional money will be necessary.”
The recreation department would like to encourage everyone in Dodge County to support these elite ball players.
