English receives life in prison for murder

An Eastman man has been sentenced to life in prison after a Dodge County jury took just 45 minutes to find him guilty of murder.

James English was charged with murder and arson in the 2009 killing of Ricky Edward Payne (49), also of Eastman.

The incident happened in the Cottondale area of Eastman at 6026 Leitch Street.

English was sentenced to life in prison on the murder conviction and also was sentenced to a concurrent 10 year term for the arson charge.

According to authorities, both English and Payne were neighbors in Cottondale and had been drinking at a neighbor’s house on April 25, 2009.

Later at the residence of William C. (Billy) Humphrey, the two men had an argument and English beat Payne to death.

He then set Payne’s body on fire, which also set the house on fire. A pizza delivery driver, who was in the area at approximately 10:28 p.m., noticed the blaze and called the fire department.

Firemen found Payne’s body just inside the front door, burned beyond recognition.

English was arrested on May 9, 2009.

Once one take a life(murder) they cannot reverse it or give that life back.

he deserves everything the judge sentenced him with maybe he will get there and get into the word of GOD JESUS CHRIST!!!!!!!!!AND REMEMBER FAMILY AND FRINDS IN ORDER TO BE FORGIVIN BY GOD MY LORD AND SAVIOR YOU MUST FORGIVE AND FORGET! GOD BLESS,
