We have a national unemployment rate that hovers at nearly 10% and it is even higher in Georgia. This administration has driven wedges between us and some of our most important allies such as Great Britain, Israel and the newly emerging republics in Eastern Europe. We are at war with radical Islamists around the globe and their attacks on Americans have increased in the past two years.
Then there are other real problems such as our border security, the Gulf oil spill and the coming commercial real estate bust. These are all real problems that require real workable solutions. Unfortunately Georgia’s Eighth Congressional District has suffered from a leadership vacuum.
Congressman Jim Marshall has been in Congress for eight years. He holds no leadership positions on either of the two committees on which he serves. He holds no leadership positions within his own political party. He holds no official leadership positions within the US House of Representatives.
In eight years Congressman Marshall has introduced only one piece of legislation that was made into law. With all of the urgent issues listed above, what was Congressman Marshall’s sole piece of legislation? He got a bill passed that changed the name of the Ocmulgee National Monument to the Ocmulgee Mounds National Monument. That’s it.
America needs our very best, not a man who is simply content to occupy a position. If the country we love is to survive and prosper we need real ideas and real leadership. We can – and must - do better than Jim Marshall.
