In November of 2002, my Honda 300 FourTrax ATV was stolen. Soon after, the Bleckley County Sheriff's office arrested members of a theft ring out of Jones County. My residence is just inside Dodge County in Empire, only 5 minutes from Cochran. The Cochran Journal reported that all the stolen ATV's in Bleckley Co were recovered. Since mine was in the Dodge jurisdiction, it was not recovered and no arrest were made. I called the Dodge Sheriff's Investigator at the time (This occured during the Graham administration), telling him that it was my opinion that it was highly probable that the Jones County men incarcerated in Bleckley for the ATV thefts were most likely the same people responsible for the theft of my ATV and pleaded with him to go interview them. Incredibly, Investigator White stated that he did not believe they were responsible! No further efforts were ever conducted to retrieve my stolen property by the Dodge Sheriff's Office and/or make arrests in the case. It appears that there is perhaps a higher level of competence in the current administration. I certainly hope so.

Too long ago now. I was justifying my comment that the current Sheriff seems to be more competent/serious about his work than the last two from the way the article reads by relating this past experience with the Sheriff's Office. It's almost as if they didn't care that a grand theft auto had occurred in their jurisdiction. Here we had an ATV theft ring from Jones Co sitting in the Bleckley jail and the sheriff at the time didn't think it necessary to interview them about an ATV theft just 1/2 mile from the arresting jurisdiction.
