The Dodge County High School Lady Indians softball team began their 2009 season with one win and one loss against two non-region foes last week. On Monday, August 17, 2009 the Lady Indians hosted the Warner Robins Lady Demons and defeated them 5-1. Adele Harrison led off the bottom of the first and reached on an error. Harrison advanced to third on a stolen base and a pass ball, before Jaye Hilliard reached on a base hit that scored Harrison. Warner Robins tied the game 1-1 in the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Harrison reached base on a two-out single, stole second base and scored on a throwing error at third base to give Dodge a 2-1 lead. Callie Eckles scored in the bottom of the fifth as she reached base on an error, moved to second on Crystal Ward’s single, advanced to third on a fly ball and scored on Danielle Rogers’ bunt that put the Lady Indians up 3-1. In the sixth, Bridgette Coleman led off the inning with a single, Harrison reached on a walk, and Ashton Holt knocked them both in with a single. Leading batters for the Lady Indians against Warner Robins were: Ashton Holt was 2-for-4 with two RBI; Adele Harrison was 1-for-3 with three runs scored; Jaye Hilliard was 3-for 4 with a RBI; Crystal Ward was 1-for-1; Bridgette Coleman was 1-for-3 with one run scored; Tiffany Knowles was 1-for-2.
The Lady Indian traveled to Telfair County on Thursday, August 20 and lost in a close game 3-4 to the Lady Trojans. Adele Harrison led off the game with a single and eventually scored to give Dodge an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second, the Lady Trojans scored two unearned runs. The Lady Indians allowed Telfair to score two more unearned runs in the third inning as they led 4-1 over Dodge. Ashton Holt led off the fourth inning with a double and Crystal Ward brought Holt in with a RBI bunt as the Lady Indians trailed 2-4. Harrison led off the sixth with a single and stole her way to third base and scored on Hilliard’s bunt to cut the score to 3-4. The Lady Indians rally in the seventh fell short as the tying run was stranded at second base. Ashton Holt was 1-for-3 with a run scored and Adele Harrison was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
The Lady Indians are scheduled to host three games at home this week. On Tuesday, August 25 they hosted East Laurens at 5:00 pm; Wednesday, August 26, West Laurens at 6:00 pm and on Thursday, August 27, Dublin at 5:00 p.m.
