A Dodge County Deputy Sheriff was arrested and booked into the Dodge County jail Tuesday (05/25/10) afternoon around 3:30 p.m.
Deputy Dean Smith turned himself into Sheriff Jeff Hinson after an agent from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) swore out three (3) arrest warrants before a Superior Court Judge against Smith.
The warrants issued were for simple battery, criminal trespass, and terroristic threats and acts. Smith has been released from the Dodge County jail on a $7,500.00 property bond set by the Superior Court.
Smith has been on administrative leave since Monday, May 10, 2010, after a citizen filed a formal internal affairs complaint with the sheriff’s office concerning an off duty incident which occurred Friday evening May 7, 2010.

Dean Smith in my books got what he deserved. It just goes to show once again that the people you should be able to trust you cant. For a officer to do this is a person who should of never became a cop. Dodge County always has something like this going on, if you dont believe it just look into the history books. Is our county ever gonna stop this? Just one more question does Dean have a history of doing this to people?

Don't fool yourself into thinking this only happens in Eastman or Dodge County. I grew up in Eastman, have lived in Tampa, Columbia, Missouri, and now right outside Syracuse New York. I have traveled to most states in the US. It happens everywhere. It just makes the papers in Dodge County because it is so small.

We all have acted before we thought a situaion through, I myself are gulity of doing this if I had a dollar for times I have done this I might be rich. What I am trying to get you to understand human nature from someone like myself who has stuided it in college not the streets. We are trained not to do so but it is easy to do just as it is easy to sin when God tell us not too, none of us are angels if so we should not be here on earth. Peace!

Cops abusing citizens, say it aint so !! This is just 1 in about 500, that actually make to the media !! Deputy Hinson surely did not want ANY media attention or an internal investigation, the department has to cut it's loss's at some point, this is damage control.Maybe this cops has had prior altercations ? Hey, he looks exactly like the drawings in the book, 'Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas',the sterotypical cop-pig,sexist,red-neck !! Smith DONT SURF..

It's a shame that we live in a world such as this. There are many officers out her harassing citizens and nothing is being done about it, and with him being an officer he should've contacted someone that was on duty to look at the situation instead of takingmatters in his own hands, this just lets you know that you cant get away with everything, because im pretty sure this isn't his first incident.

When we point one finger at a person we have four pointing back at us. Very true statement made by my ancestors of the Cherokee Indian tribe. I have found this to be true in my own life.

Before you go on judging Dean you should know him personally and his reasoning for his actions. Yes we all make mistakes. Dean is an awesome person and has always been there to protect the community. We should all be thankful to have had him here as long as we did. I know I felt safe on the streets when I knew he was working. If only more would do so to all of the crackheads/dealers in Dodge County & Maybe Dodge County would be a safer place to live.
