The Dodge County Wrestling program recently held its annual awards night to recognize the youth club, middle school team, high school team, and sponsors.
Held at the refurbished home of Dodge County Wrestling at the Peabody Complex, parents, sponsors, wrestlers, and supporters were on hand to celebrate an incredible third year of wrestling in Dodge County.
Receiving special awards from the Jr. Grappling Indians were Vincent Mannella, Most Wins and Most Pins Award; Josh Rogers, Most Improved Award; Jacob Danforth, Most Wins and Most Pins Award – Big Kids; and Trey Mosely, Most Improved Award - Big Kids. Aiden Greer and Vincent Mannella also received awards for being the first to enter the 100+ Wins Club.
The final youth club award was presented by Matthew Burton. Known as the Matthew Burton Award, this award goes to the youth wrestler who demonstrates impeccable courage, superior attitude, excellent sportsmanship, and a strong desire to grow in the sport of wrestling.
The 2010 Mathew Burton Award was presented to Crosse Bearden.
The Middle School and High School wrestlers were also on hand to receive their individual Dodge County Wrestling Athlete Awards.
High School wrestlers received individual awards at the recent Fall Athletic Awards assembly at the high school. Will Morgan, Most Outstanding Rookie Award; Kenzie Graham, Most Pins Award; Rhett Honeycutt, Most Wins Award; John Lee, Coaches Award, and Shane McCranie, Most Valuable Wrestler Award. The Coach Parks Athlete Award was also presented to Rhett Honeycutt.
Becky McCranie received a plaque in appreciation for her dedication as the Takedown Club Booster President.
Coach Greer, Grauberger, Taylor, and Humble also thanked the many sponsors and presented Top Sponsor Awards to Dr. Jim Rahn, Dr. Grant Parkerson, Dr. Mike Knight, Dr. Lou Barker, Dublin Chiropractic, McDonalds of Eastman, Bearden Oil Co, Affordable Storage, Mann & Co. Paving, Project Chandler, Shortys’ Quik Stop, Wahl to Wahl Grocery, Jones Sanders, GuideOne Insurance, The Dodge County News, R&D Designs, The Belflowers, The Burtons, Boys & Girls Club, Grauberger Physical Therapy Plus and Ocmulgee EMC Foundation.
The Most Valuable Sponsor Award is presented annually to the sponsor whose contributions are truly above and beyond. The 2010 Most Valuable Sponsor Award was presented to Alcoa, Inc.
The teams also thanked the scorekeepers for their dedication and support: Jamie Tripp, Taylor Crane, Taylor McTaggert, and Caitlin Greer.
The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the first State Champion Banner. Coach Greer and Vincent Mannella used a mechanical scissor lift to climb to the ceiling of the gym where Mannella untied the rope allowing his championship banner to hang freely for all to see.
Middle School wrestlers will receive individual awards on May 27th at Middle School Athletic Awards Assembly.
