The Georgia State Board of Education (SBOE), on Monday, May 24, granted an exemption of all statutory and regulatory class size maximums for the 2010-2011 school year.
Due to the continued economic downturn that has caused declines in state and local revenue, the SBOE recognized the need to give school districts more flexibility.
Local school districts will be required to submit a local board resolution to the Georgia Department of Education before class size maximums may exceed the current requirements.

Maybe the local board could consider retiring or releasing some of the higher-salaried employees. Did y'all know that there are people who work for the Board--not as teachers-- who make over $100,000 per year??!!?? In little ole' Dodge county, people who work for the school system--not even teaching-- making over one hundred thousand dollars a year!! Yet the school board cuts TEACHERS and enlarges class sizes!! Simply amazing. If they would retire or release some of these high rollers, they could probably hire 2 people for less pay to do the very same job that one person gets paid outrageous money to do. Think about that! And ask yourselves, "Does the BOE members REALLY care about what is better for YOUR child-or what is more politically advantageous to them??????

What you said is a shocker, thanks for the information, this helps a person like me who is returning to Dodge County to understand what is going on behind the closed doors of the School Board. I am very much intrested in their activity although I donot have children, or grandchildren in the school system here but I am a Child Advocate for children voices who donot get heard. Our children are our future and if they get short change because of the school board personell pocketing big money then they are huring the children and shooting themselves in the foot for short changing them. God says children are a gift from him and whoe until one who do respect them in any way form or fashion.

there are only 2 people who worked at the BOE in 2009 who made over 2008-2009 and that was Dr. Rogers- superintendent, and Dr. Long- high school principal. The next closest was 89,605.13.
