Six Dodge County School system staff members’ contracts were not renewed because of budget cuts, according to Dodge County School Superintendent Dr. Darrel May.
They were:
South Dodge Elementary (SDE) – teachers Tracey Harrell and Mallory White; Dodge County Middle School (DCMS) – paraprofessional Chris Screws and Dodge County High School (DCHS) – technology teacher Kevin Head, graduation coach Bernadette Holmes and paraprofessional Llona Smith.
On March 26, 2010 Dodge County faculty and staff members received notification of Phase 1 of the anticipated budget cuts approved by the school board.
Reducing staff saves schools money
The notification stated that the board required no less than three Reduction in Force (RIF) staff positions per school be presented by the principals to the board.
The document also stated that administrators would encourage retirements, working four 10 hour days during the summer, reduce 12-month certified staff to eleven months except in critical areas, reduce media prarpros from four to two, who would share duties for the four schools and several other items not dealing directly with staff.
Staff members who will retire at the end of this fiscal year that have been approved by the board are: SDE – Carla Skipper, Sandra Lee, Brenda Byrd, Mary Wright and Beatrice McCranie; North Dodge Elementary (NDE) – Pat Cravey; DCMS – Sarilu Woodard, Martha Rogers, Wendalyn Cordle, and Kathy Locke and DCHS - Jeanette Hall, Charlotte Miller, Marilyn Locke and Nancy Frost.
Resignations approved by the board that will become effective at the end of the fiscal year are: SDE – Christy Wynn, NDE – Kelly Pruitt and DCHS – Brett Bland.
The amount saved by the school system as a result of RIFed positions, staff retirements and resignations is: NDE – $107,280.05; SDE, $442,648.46; DCMS - $139,593.86 and DCHS - $342,959.66.
Resignations approved that are were not included in the above savings, but have been approved by the board were: DCHS – Tim Passmore and T.I. Papel. The resignation of Mimi Dennis has been accepted and the contract of Julia Lowe was not renewed for reasons other that RIF. Ricky Gilmore’s position as NDE media parapro’s contract was not renewed.

The heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) two year contract for all the schools and the staff office was awarded to Pruett Heating and Air for $58,000.00.
