The Indians had a couple of big region matchups on the road last week traveling to Reidsville and Blackshear.
March 15, the Indians traveled to Reidsville to take on Tattnall County. The Indians were coming off of some rough defensive games and were looking to get back on track. Clint Thompson got the start on the mound and pitched well.
Thompson went six innings allowing only four hits while walking two and striking out four. All three runs that Thompson surrendered came on a three run homer to right field. The Indians faced some strong pitching from Tattnall only managing three hits including a triple by Chandler Davis and singles by Tyler Pruett and Ethan Rice. Chip Burch had the only RBI of the game for the Indians. Dodge County had a much better game defensively but lose 3-1.
March 18, the Indians took the long ride to Blackshear to battle the Pierce County Bears. JT Shields was the starting pitcher for the Indians and continued his stretch of strong outings. Shields pitched seven innings giving up only four runs to a talented Bears team on six hits striking out four and walking two. The Indians led most of the game scoring a run in the first inning and adding a couple of runs later. Tyler Pruett was two for four with a RBI, Criag Barton one for three with a RBI, Clint Thompson one for four, Chip Burch one for three, Chandler Davis one for four, and Nick Cummings drove in a run. The Bears tied the game late and won the game in the bottom of the seventh with a balk call with a runner on third. Heartbreaking way to lose a game but the Indians had their best all around game of the year. Hopefully, this is indicative of future play for the Indians.
The Indians will host Brantley County on Friday. Come out and cheer on the Indians.
