Sheriff Lynn Sheffield would like to alert the citizens of Dodge County about a scam concerning jury duty. Citizens from surrounding counties are receiving phone calls in regards to the person missing a jury duty date. This call also informs the person that they will have to pay a monetary fee in order to avoid going to jail. Any person receiving a phone call concerning jury duty and a penalty for not showing is advised to hang up immediately and call their local law enforcement agency. Jurors who are notified of their duty date will receive a letter from the Clerk of Court with an information card to be completed so that the juror can be notified if needed. On occasion the Clerk of Courts office will contact jurors who have missed their duty to inform them to report to the courtroom or to the Clerk’s office, but at no time will they solicit any fees from the individual.
