The Dodge County High School (DCHS) Squaws basketball team defeated Toombs County to remain unbeaten in the sub-region, but fell to two ranked teams in a region crossover game with tenth ranked Beach High of Savannah and the eighth ranked Bleckley County Lady Royals in a non-region game.
On Tuesday, January 5, the Squaws defeated the Lady Bulldogs of Toombs County, 64-15, to go to four and zero in the sub-region.
Scoring for the Squaws against Toombs County was: Tierra Hamilton, 17 points, including two three-pointers; Nesia Mitchell, 11 points including a three-pointer; Europe Brown, seven points; Shauna Coley, seven points; Bre Carr, six points; Destanee Wright, six points; Shardae Jackson, five points; and Jurnee Powell, two points.
The Squaws fell to 10th ranked Beach High Bulldogs, 40-43, for their second loss of the season, on Friday, January 8. The Squaws fell behind quickly to the athletic Beach team but came storming back in the fourth quarter from a 17-point deficit to get within 40-43 with a chance to tie the game in the end, but falling short.
Scoring for the Squaws against Beach was: Wright, 15 points; Powell, eight points; Hamilton, seven points; Brown, four points; Haley Holloway, a three pointer; and Coley, one point.
The Squaws lost their second straight game to another ranked team and rival and eighth ranked Bleckley County Lady Royals in Cochran on Saturday, January 9. The Squaws lost 32-37 to the Lady Royals.
Scoring for the Squaws against the Lady Royals was: Nesia Mitchell, seven points; Destanee Mitchell, seven points; Carr, six points; Hamilton, five points; Brown, four points; Coley, two points; and Timeasha Collins, one point.
The two losses dropped the young Squaws team out of the newest state AAA poll. The Squaws are now nine and three overall and four and zero in the sub-region.
The Squaws will travel to Savannah High on Friday, January 15, for a region crossover game and then return home on Saturday, January 16, for a sub-region game with Brantley County. They hit the road again on Tuesday, January 18, for a big sub-region game with Tattnall County. All games begin at 6:00 p.m.
