The Dodge County High School (DCHS) basketball teams returned to play after the Christmas break with a sub-region games against the Pierce County Bears on the road last Saturday, January 2. The girls and boys were both victorious.
The sixth ranked Squaws moved to eight and one on the season and three and zero in the sub-region with the 75-39 win over Pierce County and The Indians are now seven and three for the season and zero and three in the sub-region with a 67-32 win over the Bears.
The Indians also played in a Christmas tournament at Portal High School over the break and lost to Long County, 79-67 but defeated Portal High, 72-63.
Scoring for the Squaws against Pierce County was: Shauna Coley, 17 points; Bre Carr, 15 points; Tierra Hamilton 12 points; Jurnee Powell, 12 points; Europe Brown, six points; Destanee Wright, six points; Cania Dawson, four points; Haley Holloway, two points; and Nesia Mitchell, one point.
Scoring for the Indians against Pierce County was: Alex Jordan, 18 points; Readell Hunt, eight points; Demonte Ivey, seven points; Cam Young, seven points; Nick Cummings, six points; Demarcus McClinton, five points; Brice Blocker, four points; AJ Lampkin, four points; RJ Carr, two points; Maleek Graham, two points; Daveon Phillips, two points; and Noah Wilcox, two points.
Scoring for the Indians against Long County was: Jordan, 24 points; McClinton, 16 points, Cummings, 12 points; Lampkin, 10 points; and Young, five points.
Scoring for the Indians against Portal was: Jordan, 34 points; Lampkin, 13 points; McClinton, nine points; Cummings, six points; and Phillips, five points.
Dodge County has two huge games this weekend as they host Beach High on Friday, January 8 and travel to rival Bleckley County on Saturday, January 9.
The sixth ranked Squaws will face two ranked teams in Beach, 10th ranked AAA and defending region champs, and Bleckley, eighth ranked in AA.
The Indians and Royals will have a tough rematch of a close and very intense win for Dodge in Eastman in December. Game time is 6:00 p.m. each night.
