The Dodge County High School (DCHS) Squaws basketball team opened their 2015 - 2016 season with four straight wins.
The Squaws have a lot of new and young faces this year as the team consists of five freshman and two sophomores to go along with five returning juniors and one senior. Team members this year include: freshmen: Europe Brown, Shauna Coley, Nadia Lewis, Nesia Mitchell, and Destanee Wright; sophomores: Cania Dawson and Lulu Waugh; juniors: Bre Carr, Timesha Collins, Tierra Hamilton, Haley Holloway, and Jurnee Powell; and senior: Sharday Jackson The Squaws are coached again this year by head coach Paula Selph and assistant Cassandra Hamilton.
The Squaws first win came at the Hugh McBride Tip-off Classic at Jeff Davis High on Saturday, November 21, with a 55-50 win over AAAAA Coffee County. Scoring for Dodge against Coffee County was: Wright, 12 points; Hamilton, 11 points; Powell, 11 points; Carr, nine points; Jackson, four points; Holloway, a three pointer; Brown, three points; and Coley, two points.
Dodge improved to two and zero with a 58-17 region win over Appling County on Tuesday, December 1. Scoring for the Squaws against the Lady Pirates was: Hamilton, 13 points including two three-pointers; Powell, 10 points; Carr, eight points; Holloway, eight points including two three pointers; Brown, six points; Coley, five points; Mitchell, five points; Waugh, two points; Collins, one point; and Dawson, one point.
The Squaws improved to four and one with two wins at home over the weekend. They defeated Jenkins-Savannah 59-32 in a region crossover game on Friday and arch rival Bleckley County 50-38 on Saturday.
Scoring for Dodge against Jenkins was: freshman, Wright, 16 points including a three-pointer; Holloway, 10 points; Hamilton, eight points including two three-pointers; Powell, eight points; Brown, six points including two three pointers; Coley, four points; Jackson, four points; Carr, two points; and Collins, one point.
Scoring for the Squaws against the Lady Royals was: Hamilton, 12 points, including two three pointers; Wright, eight points, including two three pointers; Holloway, seven points; Brown, seven points including a three-pointer; Collins, six points; Jackson, four points; Mitchell, four points; and Carr, two points.
The Squaws will host Tattnall County in a region match-up on Tuesday, December 8 and will travel to Johnson-Savannah on Friday, December 11 for another region crossover game and then return home on Tuesday, December 15 for a non-region game with West Laurens. All games tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
