The Middle Georgia Hurricanes 12U Fast pitch soft ball traveled to Warner Robins Saturday, May 1, 2010 to play in the USSSA Qualifier Purple Extreme Fundraiser.
The Hurricanes played a round robin tournament with the top two teams playing for the championship.
The Hurricanes started the day off against Southern Breeze from Lyons. The girls just weren’t up to the task and made several errors as they lost to the Breeze 10 to 5.
The girls knew that they would have to play better if they were going to have a chance at the championship.
The next game the Hurricanes took on the Motion from Cochran and came away with a 9 to 1 victory.
Feeling more confident and playing much better, the Hurricanes took on the GFA Hurricanes out of Mount Vernon. The Hurricanes cruised to an easy victory by a score of 10 to 2.
After a brief rest, the girls had to face a tough Middle Georgia Mayhem team from Warner Robins. Both teams were very familiar with each other and have played numerous times in the past. It was a close game right until the end but the Hurricanes were victorious by a score of 6 to 5.
With the victory the Hurricanes had to wait three hours to see if the Mayhem would lose to the Breeze in order for the Canes to play in the championship. Fortunately for the Canes, the Breeze defeated Mayhem, setting up a rematch between the Hurricanes and the Breeze. The girls knew they would have a tough challenge to beat the Breeze as they were undefeated for the day. Being the true champions they are, the Hurricanes came out with hot bats and jumped out on top of the Breeze 6 to 1 after two innings. Great defense and timely hitting by the Hurricanes helped them cruise to a 10 to 5 victory over the Breeze.
The Hurricanes would like to thank Mike Harrelson owner of the Hittin Shack in Eastman and Kathy Haymons owner of Cuttin Up in McRae for the new uniforms and support.
