Dodge County High School (DCHS) senior Herschel Anderson recently signed a four year military scholarship from North Georgia College and State University.
This scholarship will enable Anderson to pursue a bachelor’s degree from North Georgia College and State University and enter the Georgia Army National Guard after graduation as a second lieutenant.
Anderson will leave for basic training on June 16, 2010 for nine weeks at Fort Knox, Tennessee. He will then travel to Fort Lee in Virginia to complete 12 weeks of AIT training.
Anderson will begin pursuing his college degree in January 2011.
He attended the 2010 Cadet Scholarship Awards Recognition Luncheon at North Georgia College and State University on Friday, April 30, 2010.
While in high school, Anderson played varsity football, basketball and baseball for four years.
As a junior he received National Society of Scholars and National Honor Roll awards.
He was the Hugh O’Brian Award recipient during his sophomore year, freshman class president and student council vice-president.
Anderson has been an active member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for the past eight years and a member of BETA club, FBLA club, FCCLA club (family, career, and community leaders of America). He also participated in peer tutoring and is a teen/child mentor.
Several athletic awards Anderson has received include Best Back Award in football; Best Hustle Award in basketball; Best Defense Award, All Region Team and All-Middle Georgia Honorable Mention award in baseball.
He was selected as a Senior Superlative, Best All Around Senior Favorite and nominated for the Outstanding Senior Scholarship Award.
Anderson also received a Congressional Nomination from the Honorable Jim Marshall.
