The Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee, was the place to be July 22 through July 25 as the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) conducted its 2015 world Tournament. Nearly 5,000 student archers from all over the world including the United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom (UK), South Africa and Namibia were in town.
In all, 29 flights of nearly 190 archers per flight competed. The kids in NASP destroyed the NASP World Tournament record, as 4,871 actually shot in this year’s world.
Dodge County High School Team Bullseye participated in this tournament. This team’s score ranked them in the top in the country with a score of 3,252.
Dodge County’s Top Archer, Morgan Graham, scored 296 and is ranked third in the nation for the regular NASP tournament. Other top archers were Brooke Nardi with a score of 291 and ranked 20th in the nation; Victor Cruz with a score of 289; Tyler Alsbrook with a score of 282; Kaleb Wright with a score of 280; Maci Harrell with a score of 272; Abby Hightower with a score of 270; Joseph Mullis with a score of 264; Destanee Holliman with a score of 261; Taylor Cunningham with a score of 255; Calli Thompson with a score of 251; Drew Cook with a score of 241; Katilyn Allen with a score of 238; and Michael Weathersbee with a score of 235.
In addition, the team members shot in the NASP/IBO 3D Challenge, where simulated (foam) turkey, coyote, bear, antelope, deer and mountain sheep were the targets. The archers loved this break from shooting bull’s-eyes.
Team one scored a 1,215 with team two scoring a 1,362. Team two finished ranked 15th in the overall 3-D Challenge. Once again, Graham smoked the room with a top score of 290 and was ranked ninth in the world challenge.
Top Archers on team two were Brooke Nardi – 279; Maci Harrell – 266; Abby Hightower – 266; Joseph Mullis – 261; Victor Cruz – 228; Michael Weathersbee – 227; and Kaleb Wright – 221.
The conclusion of the world tournament was the NASP All- Star Championship. After three days of fierce and honest competition, Graham brought his high school shooting career to an end by shooting a score of 298. His USA Team won first place in the overall All-Stars Championship.
The entire coaching staff is so excited about all the accomplishments of every team member. This is a team sport. A team must be comprised of 12 members containing both genders on every team.
