Dear editor,
We have met with the Board of Commissioners concerning the Confederate flag displayed on the courthouse grounds. This flag should not be flown 364 days on public property but does have the right to be flown one day in the month of April on the Confederate holiday. It should be taken down after the holiday! Anyone has the right to fly or display the flag on his/her private property to remember his/her history.
On Monday, May 25, 2015, there was a memorial service held on the courthouse grounds. The elected Board of Commissioners did not have enough respect, compassion or love for fallen service men and women who fought and died for the American flag – the red, white and blue stripes – to take down the Confederate flag during the ceremony. It was still flying in the background. It’s a shame, shame, shame that it was not taken down!
Is this one of the reasons why big businesses will not relocate in Dodge County? Is it because we cannot come together as a united Dodge County to move this county forward? Maybe we all would benefit if we had classes taught on black and white relationships (working and progressing successfully).
