The Dodge County Indians baseball team won three games last week and are in second place in Region 3B-AA . The Indians defeated Dublin at home by a score of 5-3 and then went on the road for wins against Telfair County, 15-7, and Bleckley County, 14-5.
On April 13 the Indians hosted the Dublin Irish in Eastman. Christian Miller took the mound for the Indians and pitched five innings to get the win. Miller started the game with a walk to Dublin’s Woody Edwards, but finished the inning with two strikeouts and a groundout. Dublin got on the board first in the second inning with a leadoff homer by third baseman Ty Mullis.
In the bottom of the second, however, the Indians got the run back on Clint Taylor’s third home run of the season. Three batters later, Blake Moore launched his first homer of the year with a man on base to take the lead for Dodge, 3-1.
Dodge scored two unearned runs in the third after both JoJo Harrison and Christian Miller reached base on errors by Dublin’s third baseman. Dublin added two unearned runs off of Miller before Miller gave way to Brandon Beck in the top of the sixth inning. Beck gave up only two hits and recorded three strikeouts in his two innings of work to record the save. The win was Miller’s fifth and helped the Indians notch their seventh region win of the season and to sweep Dublin for the year.
On Thursday, April 15, the Indians traveled to McRae to face the Telfair County Trojans who were in third place in Region 3B-A and participating in senior night activities at their home field. The Indians only managed a single and a walk in the first inning against Telfair County’s ace pitcher, Alex Conley, who recorded all three outs by strikeout.
Dodge fared no better in the second and only one batter reached base in the inning and that was by a walk.
Telfair County got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Dodge’s freshman pitcher Aron Chick allowed a single to Aaron Mizell and an error allowed Mizell to score after a successful steal of third base. Two batters later, Herschel Anderson made a spectacular and dangerous catch when he nearly dove head first into the chain link fence behind home to secure a popup.
