The Dodge County High School Indians traveled to Savannah on Friday, November 7 to take on the Jenkins Warriors and a spot in the first round of playoffs. The Indians came away with a 31 to 15 win and a berth in the next round of play.
The first quarter of the game ended the same as it began with no score from either team. Dodge County would score on their third possession of the game early in the second quarter. Landon Martin, senior quarterback would use the quarterback sneak to dive in from one yard out and put the Indians on the board. Mitch Tanner would kick the point after and the score would be seven to zero Dodge. Jenkins would answer the touchdown by the Indians and after a 68-yard kickoff return the Warriors would be inside the Dodge 25 yard line and in scoring position. A few plays later they would score from 10 yards out on a screen pass and the score would be tied at seven to seven.
With the clock winding down in the second quarter and the first half Dodge could move down field and into scoring position. With 3:06 on the clock Tanner would come in and kick a field goal and Dodge would enter the locker room with a 10 to seven lead.
The Indians would come out in the third quarter and score twice. Early in the third quarter, Kyle Glover would score on the ground from one yard out and after the point after kick from Tanner Dodge would lead 17 to seven. On the following drive Jenkins was deep in its own territory and was trying to answer the touchdown by Dodge with a drive into scoring position. Javonte Middleton, Jenkins quarterback, dropped into his own end zone on a third and long and threw a pass that was intercepted by Dodge County Indian safety, Cameron Young at the Jenkins 34. Young took the interception all the way in for the score. Dodge was leading 24 to seven.
The score would remain 24 to seven until about the half way point of the fourth quarter when Dodge County would turn to Roscoe Wilcox who would score on a 14-yard run. Tanner would make the point after kick and the score would be 31 to seven, Dodge lead. Jenkins would score with less than five minutes left in the game on an eight yard pass and a two point conversion run would make the score, 31 to 15, Dodge. That would be the final score and Dodge would come away with a win.
The Dodge County Indians out rushed the Jenkins Warriors 273 yards to 38 yards but the Warriors out passed the Indians 189 yards to 20 yards.
Glover led the rushing offense for the Indians with 16 carries for 108 yards and one touchdown; Gerrard Davis had 13 carries for 78 yards; Wilcox had eight carries for 62 yards and one touchdown; Cameron Coleman had two carries for 16 yards; and Martin had seven carries for eight yards and one touchdown. Three receivers had one reception each. Davis had 10 yards on one reception; Justin Peterson had one reception for seven yards and Wilcox had one reception for three yards.
The Dodge County defense was lead by Tanner with seven and a half tackles and two sacks; Alec White with four and a half tackles; and Corvon Parker and Glover with four tackles each.
The Indians will travel to Macon this Friday, November 14 to face Westside in the first round of state playoffs. The game will be at the Ed Defore Complex and will begin at 7:30 p.m.
There will be a send off for the Dodge County Indians on Friday afternoon. The players will leave the Dodge County High School at 4:15 p.m. The community is asked to line Pearl Bates Avenue between the high school and red light on the Cochran Highway by Farmers Furniture around 3:45 p.m. so that we can send the team and their coaches off with all the support we have to offer. Everyone is asked to bring signs, noisemakers and anything else to show your support.
