The Dodge County High School (DCHS) Indians traveled to Pierce County last Friday night to wrap up regular season play. The Indians were hoping to come away with the win and bring the first round of playoffs to Memorial Stadium in Eastman this Friday, but the Pierce County Bears had other ideas and defeated the Indians 55 to 36.
The first quarter was all Pierce County as they came out and scored with 10:01 on the clock with a 16-yard pass and was up seven to zero. Dodge’s defense did a good job of holding Pierce’s offense out of the end zone for the next few minutes, but Pierce was able to get a five-yard run into the end zone and the score was 14 to zero Pierce. With the clock winding down in the first quarter, senior quarterback Landon Martin completed a 23-yard pass to Mitch Tanner for a touchdown and after the point after kick Dodge was on the board and the score was 14 to seven Pierce.
Pierce County would score first in the second quarter to answer the touchdown by Dodge at the end of the first quarter. A 34-yard pass by Pierce County would once again put them in the end zone and after the point after kick the score was 21 to seven Pierce. The Indians would get the ball back and move down the field and into the red zone. With a one-yard run, Martin would score a touchdown and the score would be 21 to 13. Tanner’s point after kick attempt would be no good and Pierce would still lead 21 to 13. With less than two minutes left in the first half Dodge would once again move into the end zone with a one-yard run by Kyle Glover and the score would be 21 to 19 Pierce County after the Tanner point after kick was no good. With the clock winding down in the first half Pierce would answer with a two-yard run for a touchdown and the score at the end of the second quarter was 28 to 19 Pierce County.
Dodge County would enter the third quarter trailing Pierce County 28 to 19. Moving the ball quickly down the field and into the red zone Dodge would have to turn to Tanner and a 27-yard field goal would cut the deficit by three and the score would be 28 to 22 Pierce. Pierce County would score on their next two possessions with a 53-yard pass for a touchdown and a 13-yard pass for a touchdown and the score would quickly be 42 to 22 Pierce. With 1:17 on the clock Dodge County’s Gerrard Davis would have a 10-yard run for a touchdown and after the point after kick by Tanner the score would be 42 to 29 Pierce still leading.
